Mission Puts Safety First
Each month, the mission invites a special speaker to lead a class in safety training. The reason for this monthly precaution is simple: according to the Insurance Journal, nearly 3 million non-fatal injuries and illnesses occur in the workplace each year. While the number of mission employees is relatively small, we have a goodly number of homeless women and men engaged in work therapy. Our Work Therapy Program gives our clients both classroom training and on the job experience. Jillian Richards, RN, led eighty-seven clients and staff members in a presentation covering heat exhaustion and dehydration. As the mercury climbs, workers must be particularly mindful of the dangers posed by hotter temperatures. Because we care about the safety and well-being of those in our care, we will continue promoting safety among the women and men in our Work Therapy Program.
