Hotel Louisville & WCM

Mission: InnPossible

As far as we can determine, Wayside Christian Mission's dual usage of Hotel Louisville is unique in America.

This twelve-story high-rise in downtown Louisville serves as a safe, clean transitional living shelter for women and families while providing rooms for tourists and business travelers.

And with its spacious, elegantly-appointed ballrooms, Hotel Louisville (www.hotellouisville.orghas become a local favorite for wedding receptions, church conferences, business gatherings, graduation parties, and family celebrations.

While the idea is novel, the concept makes good sense.  From the general manager to the front desk clerks to the banquet servers, the hotel is staffed primarily by men and women who have either completed or who are currently in one of our recovery or training programs.

Not only are our resident clients receiving formal classroom instruction, but our work therapy program also offers real hands-on training that will enhance their skills for re-entry into the workforce.

Jobs are plentiful in the hospitality industry for well-trained job seekers; at present, we are producing qualified applicants who may be reasonably assured of obtaining gainful employment.

Unemployment is a leading cause of homelessness, but through our regimen of classroom instruction and hands-on job training, we are working to eliminate one of the root causes of homelessness in our community.

Our College and Career Program is taking men and women off the streets and placing them in the classroom.  Resident clients who never completed high school can attend GED classes; a number of men and women earn their GEDs at the Hotel each year.

Upon earning their GEDs, our clients may choose to enroll in college or in a vocational training program.  Onsite tutoring is available and students enjoy access to our study hall that offers computers and Wi-Fi internet connections.

The Hospital Hospitality House provides affordable accommodations to those with family members receiving treatment at area hospitals.

The University of Louisville's Resilient Families Program teaches parents how to assist and motivate their school-aged children while offering boys and girls new ways of looking at education and learning opportunities.

By working with both parents and children, students can expect to see better grades through increased enthusiasm, better learning skills, and increased parental support.

Besides our very close working relationship with the University of Louisville, Sullivan University, Spalding University, and Jefferson Community and Technical College, Wayside Christian Mission has hosted groups or has worked with students from Centre College, Indiana University, Hanover College, Asbury University, Simmons College, Brown Mackie College, Bellarmine University, Louisville Bible College, Southern Seminary, and St. Meinrad Seminary.

Wayside Christian Mission's Hotel Louisville is much more than a hotel--this is a safe haven for women, a training center for the chronically unemployed, and a great place for weddings, conferences, and celebrations.

Our Cardinal Crossing Cafe offers the best $5 lunch in downtown Louisville.

For out of town travelers, we provide a comfortable night's rest with a healthy dose of southern hospitality.

There is more to be done and we truly rely upon our many donors and volunteers, but as you can plainly see, our concept for operating a hotel is uniquely inspirational!
